Any other R/C junkies out there? I fly "giant scale" 40% R/C aerobatic planes. Cars a hobby for me; planes are a passion. :)

My buddy is a manager at a local hobbie town, he is nuts about the stuff. He does carpet racing and is sponsored. I have a cx2 heli and used to own a revo but Im sick of nitro I may get the new E-revo here soon though, cant go wrong no break in time and about 40 minutes of battery life with the lipo batteries.

I don't really have anything fancy, spending all my extra money on school, but I like R/C. I've flown planes, and I own a few cars. My brother has about 5 grand worth of xmods, lol.

I'm looking at a mini e-revo vxl, should be small enough to be easy to store and cart around, but still big enough to bash.

I would never have the patience for this! Love to watch them, though! Have you ever lost one....as it getting out of range?

Range is well over a mile line-of-sight; you would lose visual contact well before radio contact. The planes I mostly fly are considered "40%" scale, as in 40% the size of the real thing -- wingspan of approx 10". I have totaled one 40% and cost-wise, it's about the equivalent of totalling a 1st gen VR-4/TT...!

What's your opinion on ducted fan foamies? I've never flown one, but I'm looking for something to tool around with. I'm certainly not skilled enough for the 3D flight...

A ducted fan plane will have a lifespan measured in seconds in the hands of a novice pilot.

Then I'll start with something more basic. I'd like to say I'm more advanced than a trainer, but it's been a long time since I've flown. Thanks for saving me the cash ;)

Doc, I would reccomend the GWS Pico or Lite Stik. Great first time flyers and not too much coin to repair. I have been flying for about 15 years now, fixed wing and rotor and 3 boats. I have only owned 1 "car" but cannot place my mind to get another R/C car when I have my 3K to pamper when I get some cashish.

Either way, great vids and hope this thread grows.

Another note, I would be interested in finding that old Lexan Mitsubishi GTO 1/10 scale body.... dont think they are even available but I still check flebay for one all the time.

I race my Mugen MBX5 1/8 scale gas buggy. Ive wanted to get into planes for some time. but never could afford to do it right. My car is enough cash, have around 2500 into this one with the supporting gear.

I also enjoy building large scale r/c boats from scratch. Havnt done one in a while, moving up to real boats..lol

I used to run my Traxxas Revo 3.3, but I haven't ran it in over a year because its back home in ny. Fun little truck, very expensive hobby to start though, spent around 700-900 dollars.

I would like to build a medium sized R/C boat at some point, seems like it would be a fun project. I've seen guys basically make "cargo" boats with remotely opening doors for fishing. You can dump a few gallons of chum over a specific feature on the bottom, and the drop your hooked bait right in the middle of it way more consistently than casting out. Pretty cool stuff :).

The ones you can buy are called "bait boats" lol.

I am in the process of finding plans to build a tug boat... anyone have any plans already?

recently converted my Jammin X1 to a Brushless setup with a BCE Chassis and upgraded the crap out of the supports because the damn thing had so much torque it was twisting the chassis and popping all of the shafts out upon launch.

I used to have all kinds but now only have a few r/c trucks and cars.

Tamiya Clodbuster - custom chassis built for rock crawling
Traxxas Stampede
Kyosho Electric ATV

Traxxas T-maxx 3.3 - Built, lots of aluminum suspension/chassis parts
Traxxas T-maxx 2.5R

Bolink Rail Dragster
70's made Jerobee C3 Corvette 1/12th scale

I dunno anything about this one...... 70's or 80's Nitro Lamborghini, has aluminum chassis and wheels and small .09 nitro engine.

Then I have a couple boats

One electric about 2 feet long, I forget the brand
One Nitro speed boat. Has O.S. LA .60 engine, 10'' prop blade. Its about 30'' long.

like Doc i'd love to have a go at flying. seen a few ARTF planes that are not so expensive with 1.8 meter wing span...i figure that once its off the ground and high enough to correct then learning it should be a synch!?....but nothing is that easy lol

right OK WTF?

Alan...what did you do with the dates lol, how the hell did i end up first post when i replied?

Well apparently the forum has decided that you are the most senior member here. All the way from 1969, how does it feel to own your 3s for over 40yrs?

Pretty awesome vids on the first page... I got into the hobby for little while when I was younger, with nitro trucks, but had to many other things like dirtbikes and atvs that took most of my money out of my pocket.

Nice performance vid - the hobby has changed a lot since I last flew. A buddy and I flew our planes in high school way back when. I had a glider and he had a Cessna - both were like .20 cox engines, but I got a lot longer flying time and he had more performance.

I haven't flown model rc since, but damn - 40 mins flight time now? A quick youtube search show how nuts some people go - true scale jets, b-52 crash, gt-pro in flight video? Wow.

I have a brushless li-po powered E-maxx and Mini-T. Between the two I'm sure I have close to $2k invested but sadly I haven't touched them for a few years. I always liked R/Cs and wanted to get into planes just didn't have the time or money for it. Lol.

My Micro-T is just sitting. The local hobby shop had some racing over the winter last year, maybe I can get in on the action again this year. Anyone else do racing?
