View Full Version : Windshield fogging

I feel kinda dumb asking this, but it's getting to the weather where my windshield is fogging pretty bad in the cold mornings. If I need to get going right away, I'd normally just turn on the wipers for the fog on the outside, and use the sleeve of my sweatshirt to wipe off the inside. This hasn't been working the past couple of mornings. It remains foggy and won't come off even when I wipe off both sides of the glass. What is this? Why is it not coming off? It eventually goes away after the car is warmed up and I used the defrost but it's annoying to have to wait that extra time in the mornings.

Warm up the car before you're ready to leave?

I've been plagued w/ the fog as well. I've read that a certain material on the dash emits something in direct sunlight, clinging to the window, which causes this foggy appearance. It should help quite a bit if you windex your window on the inside every so often to get rid of it. Let me know what happens, I've never tried, I usually hang my head out the window like a retard going to Disneyland, or just wait on it to defrost.

get the stuff for helmet visors. cant remember the make but its a tiny bottle of foam that stops the visor steaming up.
that works a treat ;)

Are you sure the heater core isnt leaking, notice a sweet smell, carpet damp ?
Edit nvm just saw the last line about it going away when warm. RainX makes anti fog stuff you wipe on.

I don't see how anti-fog stuff is going to help if it's not fog on the outside of the glass. I wash/rainX the inside and out pretty often.

Mine often gets a dirty grime sort of fog on the inside after sitting in the sun. Needs to be wiped of with a cloth. What the hell is this? I thought perhas there was a leak somewhere from the heater but there is no fluids leaking inside and no heating issues. Plus I haven't used my heater since I lived in Melbourne 18 months ago.

Also make sure you have your ventilation settings to fresh air not recirculate.

+1 to this. What is this?
Pretty sure this is a by-product of whatever crazy material mitsubishi used for the interior. Probably the same reason all 3000gts/stealths smell the same. Sun hits the dash and causes it to out-gas something that fogs the windows. I suspect it could be cured with a dash cover.

Well I certainly wouldn't waste my time with that RainX Anti-fog bullshit. I used it once and it lasted all of about half a day before it went right back to fogging like crazy in most places...
I think I'll try some of that visor stuff that was mentioned earlier. This is a really bad problem during the fall/spring lol.

does your a/c work? If not that will be part of you problem, because the a/c will dehumidify the cabin air.

HHHAAA, I noticed that too, every single one I have been in has that 3000gt smell.

use that rainx anti-fog stuff on the inside of the glass. And make sure your windshield is CLEAN on the inside. Clean it with windex.

The fog isn't ON the inside or out. Try wiping both sides off and it just stays there.

Windshield separating ? If its not on the in or outside then it must be in the middle. Between the glass where the stretchy plastic crap is.

I keep a microfiber towel in my car, no amount of windex will remove the fog, but a quick microfiber wipe works for a bit.

^^^ This is the correct answer. Whatever glue Mitsubishi used that allows our dash padding to separate and peel is also gassing and fogging up our windshields. This is much different that fogging that goes away with the defrost. Its more like a cloudy film that can be wiped away. There was a Mitsubishi Tech Talk article that address this concern. Later models (i forget the cutoff date) used a different glue that not only practically eliminates the fogging, but also eliminates the dash separation. My 1G VR4 fogs up and the dash padding has been separating at the edges (cracking the defrost vent for the second time) while my 96 RT/TT is fog free. I keep a small microfiber towel on the passenger seat just to wipe every so often.
