so some of you guys know that i have multiple projects at almost all times. Here i have a 71 bonneville 650, or reffered to as a t120R . The back story on it is , my grandpa was a triumph fanatic.... Every two or three years he bought a new one and kept the old one for about a decade he did this in the seventies along with collecting various triumph parts and frames along the way.
So when he got put in a nursing home several years ago he decided to give his completed bikes to family. My dad received a 73 trident, my youngest uncle a custom triumph chopper, and oldest uncle a 74 bonneville 750. And me a 71 650, im the only grand kid with a motorcycle enthusiasim so he thought it fitting.
Alittle knowledge for people unfamiliar, this bike is a right hand shift, left hand brake whitworth bike. So everything is on the opposite side and it requires special tools to work on :)
When i got the bike it had 12k on it , was in good shape for sitting for 20+ years without being moved and i had it running in a weekend and idlign decent.
Well i decided it left alot to be wanted in a bike and the only way to get it clean like i wanted was ....... complete resto ......

how she sat for over a year after frames was powder coated and forks resealed

motor in

some mock up
5059
5060
and where she sits as of last night, mocking up the pipes so i could clockthe mufflers correctly and wrap the xhaust . now today i will be hi temp spraying and curing the exhaust and painting a few pieces.
i will also start assembling the new clutch parts onto it and hopefully get the kickstart/ shifter cover put back on. mainly just some little things to tidy after that, fuel lines, cable routing , and some small bracket painting then it should be ready to start .
so tempting to throw some clubmans on it and get shorter cables........ but i thik theirs enough vintage and correct parts on their to detract from a cafe look ....

Yea for sure makes it.nice for the winter and everything.is accessible with me sitting on a chair due to my knee .
5061
Right side pretty much done , just need to route the clutch cable
5062
In between the box on the left and to the left of hammer is all the parts left to go on minus front fender and left exhaust pipe
5063
Anything look familiar ?
Doesn't look like I got a lot done in four hours today , but the left side trans cover got all sorted , a bunch of title brackets painted , the exhaust was sprayed with the dei header wrap spray then heat gunned

Idk It's a tough call I don't wanna ruin the fact It's all their , and 90% or more of the parts are the ones that came in it in 71

Got out and got some.more work done today , installed the clutch and made all the appropriate adjustments on the gear box end and the pressure plate 5067
Got that all buttoned up and painted the last of the brackets and started making a parts list , just need a few little things and she will be good to start I think but unfortunately the local bike shops don't carry this stiff so i have to order all online . But I am going to puck up the front fender from the painter tommorow so that can get installed in the mean time .

Got the last of the parts in the mail today so all plumbed up for the fuel system and all linkages adjusted ... Found our my kick stand was hitting the exhaust pipe so i fabbed up a bracket to bolt.onto the factory stand lug . It moved it back half I.ch and rotate the angle ten degrees counter clockwise and everything clears now . Love my.new hobart MIG I.purchased back in January .

had some throttle cable issues that are now sorted after the vid was taken and need to get back in the side cover and find out why the kick start is not returning while running.

Have you done anything to counteract the push rod tubes leaking?, every one of these bikes Ive seen has had leaking tubes..
Good work on the rebuild!.
