Are you looking for our opinions on the Pioneer HU or looking for our suggestions?

If you're looking for our opinion, then this is a solid HU. Pioneer is a well established car audio manufacturer. Their 2013 line is definitely very nice. The x5500BHS is nice as a standalone unit; as it comes with a DVD player, bluetooth, and the ability to add application (some are actually really cool. Im shocked tbh).

While this is a nice stand alone unit, its also good if you want addons. For example if you have amps, then this has 3 sets of 4 volt RCA outputs. On top of that, GPS, a backup camera, and other accessories can be added.

One thing to keep in mind is that I dont think this is Android-friendly.. but Im not 100% positive. Please just take it easy on the motor. Those are one of the first things to go :)

Honestly, if I had to choose a Pioneer DD, then this would most likely be the one (if not the 8500). IF I could pick ANY radio, then it'd be the Pioneer 80PRS.. but that doesnt have GPS or a touch screen.

If you were looking for other suggestions, then I would look at Alpine and Kenwood's Excelon line.

Both. Some feedback on the quality/reliability etc.

I am looking for android friendly, BT, touch screen (not motorized) with similar features to what I linked. I understand that motor is the first to go so prefer to avoid it altogether. I'll continue searching on that...

The Alpines I gleaned over are beyond what I am looking to spend :eek4: But will check out the Kenwoods.

Let me know how that one works out for you. Was looking at going to something like that myself when I get the money together. Like having the touchscreen as well as physical buttons for volume and skipping tracks.

I just finished installing this : AVH-P4400BH - 2-DIN Multimedia DVD Receiver with 7" Widescreen Touch Panel Display, Built-In Bluetooth®, and HD Radio? Tuner | Pioneer Electronics USA (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/DVD-Receivers/AVH-P4400BH)

I got one for 195€, 2012 line I think was on sale so at that price it was a no brainer. Very nice unit. What I like the most is that how simple it is to use, best user interface ever IMO.

I have a Kenwood DNX-7160. Very happy with the Garmin Nav and iPhone integration.

The steering wheel interface you chose will not work. You need to get the SWI-PS Pac-Audio.com Product Details | iPod Integration for your car and More by Pac-Audio - Connecting you to the future (http://pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?ProductId=210&CategoryID=29) for this. If you got a JVC / Alpine / Clarion / Kenwood head unit you would need the SWI-JACK instead.

The Axxess works with a resistive ladder which we do not have. We have a single wire with pulse width modulation. Also there is a Metra interface that supports using the stock amplifier so it's pretty much plug and play, no cutting of wires.

MB looks good. How is that display motorized? The reason I didn't go with the 4400 was because I didn't want the motorized display to fail prematurely. I think the model I linked/chose has everything else the same (+smaller screen).

DOH! ah well AMZN has a decent return policy. Do you have a link to the Metra interface you mentioned above?

Metra 70-7003 which you can find on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Metra-70-7003-Wiring-Harness-Mitsubishi/dp/B0002ZGEO4). Very handy interface. There's only a couple of power and grounds to solder to get everything connected with the steering wheel buttons as well.

Should mention also the SWI-PS stands for Pioneer / Sony.

My cell is an Android....but I haven't taken the jump to the MMCD android version yet.

Not sure if I should try to sell this or not>>> http://i986.photobucket.com/albums/ae349/Stealth2turbo/Stealth/CAM00341_zps11fed95d.jpg

AND was able to source it at the local Best Buy for .99 cents. Amazing. The Metra was still good because I had the Factory Powered amp.

The device does blue tooth nicely; very impressed by the blue tooth streaming of mp3s. HD radio sounds amazing and pulls pictures of artist. Still need to program the steering wheel control adapter but ran out of time; its wired in. I was relocating my MAFTPro from the DS floor to the glove box at the same time as this installation; and babysitting kids lol.

Also need to source a double din face plate...IIRC someone said 3SX haz???

Stereo Surround Trim Bezel Around Radio OEM 3S*-*Mitsubishi 3000GT*/*Dodge Stealth Parts (http://www.3sx.com/store/comersus_viewItemBundle.asp?idProduct=25036)

I have a single din, and had to make a minor modification (trimming). Idk whether or not the DD is correct.

Ordered it from eBay vendor; I think it's actually cherry hill Mitsubishi.

Update: impressed by the steering wheel adapter. Works great, and aside from needing to do it quick, was easy to program. She wouldn't start afterwards...oh noez! Turned out to be loose wire from starter to battery +. Whew!

Roybatty,

This was exactly the thread I have been looking for over the last few weeks!

I also have a 91 TT with factory amp and I am trying to replace the factory radio/tape and CD combo (same as you show in the picture) with an aftermarket HU with the ability to still use the stock amp. I see you have done this! In all of the posts that I have seen until now, they have all been incomplete.

So, I see that you actually needed to get 2 cables, the Metra 70-7003 and then a 'generic' cable to connect to the new head unit. Am I right about this? Also, how do you hook things up? Which cables connect where?

I am so happy I found this thread and am excited about actually being able to get this project started (and completed!)

The Metra kit I linked on page 1 has everything you need. The only thing you have to do is connect up any accesories such as the steering wheel button interface.

Jimvr4's advice is golden. Everything he mentioned was on.

For mine, 91 tt, I did need the additional pigtail, as noted above.

What is good about it, is the standard color coding of the wires apply with the pigtail. You do spend time butt connecting wires from the hu to the pigtail, but you don't need to do this in the car. I thought I linked a wiring diagram /list for radio. Iirc it applies well.

There is some splicing to do in car but iirc it was more related to steering wheel controls.
