...and watched it bounce off my 3SX intake covers. Best $20 I ever spent.
Cover those intakes guys!

putting a rag or 2 over the intake works pretty good.

Yeah I've always just used rags, but sometimes the rag works its way off of a corner or something and allows for a possibility of something getting in. I like how these sit flat against the surface and pretty much ensure that nothing will get in there ever

I have developed the habit of basically pulling the plenum with one hand and putting on the cover with the other. Can't be too careful.
Even though I watched the washer fall, I still had to take a 10 minute break to recover from the initial "oh sh*t" feeling, lol.

Haha! I usually tape it with like painters tape all across or put a rag across.
The phreak blew his motor from dropping a bolt in there. It's a sad time if you watch it go in.

I like to use double sided tape. It shows what all would have gone in there if it wasnt there. :)
Just also make sure nothing got down the v into the t-belt area. I had a friend that dropped a copper washer down there, didn't say anything, went to fire the car, hole in the timing belt and 12 bent intake valves.

Haha now I wish I would have kept my last set of intake gaskets so I could just tape them up and make a set for free..

Yeah you know that's not how I roll though. I don't go for the free solution, I go for the best solution.

Same here. After all the horror stories I read about dropped washers, I don't go after them without a magnet.

I like to drop things down in the V for a few laughs when I spin my next bearing and get to pull it out.

Sometimes I'm an idiot and I don't cover the plenum with anything. I usually end up doing it shortly after but sometimes I start removing a lot of small parts with it exposed.
I don't have nuts on the side of my plenum though so at least I don't have to worry about that.

Pure Genius! Haha
I use overlaid 3" aluminum tape....on blocks, heads, intakes,...etc.
Seals perfectly and 6mo or 2yrs later...and even when stored outside, no rust at all.

I always just use duct tape right on the plenum, pulls off clean but seals well when you need it to.

Washer = first engine replacement.
My question is. Why would anybody still have those washers on there. Can't be worth the risk. Throw them away!

+1 I've always like the cheap and easy way to do it if won't be long, if I will then it's tape.

I dropped a washer in mine a while back and simply picked it out with a magnet, but after that I've always covered it with a rag and some tape.

As long as you fish them off with a magnet before you ever remove the plenum there's no problem. What gets people is when they forget about them. Even if you're using covers, if you forget and try to lift the plenum, they can escape into the intake before you ever get the cover on.

I`ve always been very carefull with those washers, then last year I thought sod it and binned them as well; not worth the risk as you say..
