View Full Version : Best clutch for a tt motor swap with stock n/a trans

As the title says, I am keeping the n/a trans and swapping to a tt motor. As it is, my clutch slips from time to time, so I am looking for a reasonable upgrade. In a perfect world, I would like it to drive as close to stock as possible.

Any recommendations?

It sort of depends but you will probably need something stage 3ish to hold the power. Puck clutches hold great but don't last as long.

i was looking at southbend clutches on gzp. Stage 2 n/a is rated for 320hp. That should be enough right? If not I am probably thinking a clutchmasters.

That Southbend clutch should easily outlast the transmission...

Well the engine is rated 320 so that would be right on the line. A spec stage 2 didn't hold up in mine. I would still recommend stage 3 in something.

ACT 2600 is rated to hold 400 ft lb of torque and it is full face.

I do agree, its a bad idea to run the NA trans on a TT swap, but if it has to be done, it has to be done.

I have a 6 puck clutch on my n/a 3.5. Maybe it's because I only gave it a 300 mile break-in time or maybe be because it's an ebay F1 clutch :p
But It's already slipping after 10k miles.

Segmented Kevlar clutch on the way as well as all new t.o.b. and pressure plate of course. Can't wait to pull my trans off and see how the old 6puck looks :p

I've got a busy couple weeks ahead of me...

I hear oem tt clutch is as good for some decent numbers. I can't afford that and not sure it fits the n/a trans properly, so I'm going to test out this kevlar setup.

I would just get an awd trans for your TT swap.. I just sold my spare 6 speed but still have a welded vcu if you need it down the road. . n/a trans will not last long under TT power & more clutch grip may be even more wear on the internals

This. I used a 6 puck springless act stage 3 in my fwd tt swap. The clutch outlasted three fwd trannies. Fortunately, I had fwd trannies laying around. If I had it to do over again, I'd of gone with an awd trans and welded vcu right off, and saved myself a good deal of work.

Which clutch you use won't be an issue very long.

That will be for later. I'll replace it when it fails, lol
Was going to replace it down the road either way.

My next project will be starting with a tt shell. Hopefully it will hold out until then.
