hi, this is mainly aimed at greg, but i dont think that he wants a pm about this, and it will be better for others to see this in case they have this issue.

i donated money, and got the email... thats all fine. but after going to the link in the email when i press download, the page reloads and looks like this:


i dont know what the issue is, but i would like to flash to chrome V2

also, i had a fuel pump check engine light come on, and wasnt sure what that applied to. i had some 02 sensor and EVAP codes pop up as well, so im hoping i can get all of those cleared in chrome V2.

any help is greatly appreciated greg! thanks for all your work, the flashing went very smooth and your writeups are awesome!

copy that link to your clipboard, open a new tab, paste it in and hit enter. See if it downloads then. The browser is not recognizing it as a download and is rendering it in the browser. Can happen sometimes depending on how they are writing the response variables.

you may also try pasting that link into firefox or ie.

thanks for your help chris. i hope no one stole anything... i wonder what the issue was. i opened it in IE and it worked fine... thats frustrating. i never use IE so i didnt even think to try that

There is something wrong with evoscan 2.9 and reading the CEL codes. I don't know if it got resolved in the latest version but I still use evoscan 2.6 for reading/clearing codes.

In the future if anyone has issues downloading I can email you the file too. :)

to be clear, it wasnt evoscan that was the issue, but it was the actual Chrome V2 xml and bin files that would not download to my computer.

i am hoping now that i got chrome v2 that i can get the correct peripheries turned off to keep the check engine light on and off as it should be.

you have any input on that fuel pump CEL? still not sure what its referring to... but i got them turned off fine on 2.6

There is no such thing as a fuel pump CEL. The problem is with evoscan. It makes up false codes regardless if the CEL is on or not.

Chrome is a stock American ROM with a few add ons. Nothing more. It displays the same codes as a stock 99 VR4 would.

Never guess how long it took me to figure that issues out....

First time I experienced it, the CEL was on because I forgot to disable a periphery. Read the code with 2.9 and it said the speedo. There is no CEL for the speedo... Cleared it, then it said the issue was the knock sensor. Cleared it, checked it again, it said speedo again.

Flashed a stock ROM back on. Same issues..

Finally got the idea to use evoscan 2.6 to get the real code... Nearly went bald in the process.

i have both downloaded, and i will keep them. this computer is only for the vr4, so i can keep it as is!

maybe my silly questions should go in the q/a area? i have a feeling a lot of people will have these plus a ton more

I saw that in the comments when I updated. No clue what the "fix" is...

Haven't played with the new ECUFlash much other than using for disassembly purposes.

greg, is the following thinking correct:

under launch control
stationary rev limit is the max rev limit that the 2-step will rev to?

i ask because there are two areas to set timing, the ignition retard and ignition retard limit.

the way im seeing it, the anti lag takes out the ignition retard at whatever start RPM you set it at, and by the rev limit it has taken out the timing to the ignition retard limit.

you have any recommendations on what you should set everything to? i know how timing and whatnot work, i have never messed with a 2 step though, so its hard to put it in perspective. also curious as to what afr i should set?

You got it!

Start with the default settings. I added or took away the rev limit depending on track conditions and 60ft times. Never needed to change enrichment or ignition limit. Then again, a larger turbo may need more fuel and less timing to spool.

watch out when you upgrade ecuflash, it deletes your xml definitions. easy to fix, but something to know.

I wrote the web app using vb.net and it was tested with windows xp/ie 8. This is an older version for testing and most newer versions of ie work just fine. I may need to test it with a different browser.

ForestGump, I call a response redirect for a ZIP file. RAR files usually end up rendering in the browser because of the way that win rar integrates itself as a browser helper. On win xp / ie 8 I noticed that problem with win rar. Zip files were recognized as a download so I figured the problem was solved. In the end it's all in how the browser interprets the mime type and how it is set up to treat that type of file.

brett, i can try and recreate it if you like but i deleted the screen shot because i didnt want anyone using my copy. i was using google chrome though for what its worth. it worked fine in IE.

I had tried various implementations of the response function but ultimately found redirect to work... Mainly there is code that has to fire AFTER the file is served... namely db updates. Also the method I use now obfuscates the actual file name.

However, I will try response.transmitfilename as I don't think I tried that...

No need to recreate the error. Google chrome has built in "helpers" and viewers which don't really help... Lol

you can set the file name in the headers to anything you want. There is some code missing above that creates the file object using the actual path to the file on the server.

I also pull the file out of a folder outside of the web root, even if they had the real filename it would not be possible to download it.

This did not work as we would expect. Although the file transmitted flawlessly, response.end terminates any further code execution. and there is more code in the current sub to update the databases that the file was indeed downloaded. I even tried:

If you could shed some light on a better way of doing this I would love to hear it. I thought about using a popup but most browsers block the popups. The popup could be passed hidden parms to enable the down load and the db update code could still be run.

The page logic is as follows:

Is there a admin query present in the QueryString?

Then show admin data. Page Quit.

Else Is this a PayPal return (from purchase/donation)?

Then show finalize PayPal purchase/donation by

creating db records
generate email
show download button

Else Is this a return file download?

Then determine if download allowed (max days, max downloads)

if agreed to terms then precheck the terms box and show download button
Else show error

Else This MUST be a first visit

show first impression with donation buttons

There is also present a css and I have not moved this to code behind mainly becuase there is very little code - its mostly building the output which is displayed via response.write. I traditionally was an asp developer and asp.net is new to me over the past year. VB vs. VB.net really had a lot of little syntax changes that caused me great headaches . . . LOL
