i wonder whats the drivetrain on this? certainly not a first awd supra I´ve seen a few.
interesting....
so it takes $30,000 to buy a bone-stock tt, several grand extra for a bad-ass turbo upgrade & supporting mods, and untold wealth beyond that....
....just so you can have a car as good as a $5000 vr4 with $5000 of mods.

haha with 10K total investment in a 3/s you couldn't even touch a bpu supra unless you bought everything straight out of the junkyard and only needed it to run one pass. Why even bring this up?

on a jdm (rhd) supra the ceramic turbos wont last very long even at 400 hp ~17psi. jdm supras also have much smaller injectors, different ecu, cams with less lift & less duration and smaller headers, smaller AR, smaller downpipe and cats, the stock jdm fuel pump is not enough for even bpu... usdm and euro supras generally got bigger and better everything. a "bpu" jdm spec supra is not the same kind of a beast as a usdm or euro spec with the similar mods.

sorry if needed to be more specific, gee. The general point is any 5K car is going to need a lot of work to get anywhere and a 3/s needs more upgrades than an equivalent supra. A 10K total invested 3/s car might get you a stock one that will actually drive everyday for years.

a jdm supra needs pretty much same amount of upgrades as a 3s and both make about the same power after the upgrades.

and your average supra, JDM or not, isn't going to need a full engine rebuild and thousands in drivetrain upgrades to not blow up like a $5000 3/s will.

same thing with a supra .. a 6k TT supra is usually going to need a rebuilt very soon .

that is kinda the point. IPD is saying he could run out with a 10K 3/s car and run with a 30K Supra. not going to happen

i wasn't talking about 30k in upgrades. i was referring to the sale price of a STOCK supra-tt. upgrades on the supra are a different matter. imho, no matter how you slice it, for about the total cost of USDM spec mkiv supra-tt--stock--you can have a much faster, equally strong 3/s. that's all.

Go look at your post ipd. You said for 10k you could have a 3/s better than a 30k supra with a badass turbo upgrade.

30k stock tt price. $$$ extra on top of that for turbo upgrade. $$$ on top of that for AWD conversion. even if you spent 20k putting parts on a 5k vr4 in order to match said supra...it would still be easier/cheaper.
imho, AWD converting a supra is about as retarded as people who want to RWD convert their 3/s.

great, but that is not what you said.
I sure love arguing with people on the internet. People love to take what you are pointing out and change it to mean you are saying something totally different.
Obviously if you have enough money any car can keep up with a Supra, the only point I was making is that a 10K 3/s is not equal to even the most basic upgraded supra, much less one with upgraded turbos as you were trying to say.

i think we're into semantics. i still read my original post the same way i meant it. whatever. i'm arguing on the internet again. FML

That's pretty cool! Lots of wild setups have come out of Russia recently..!

Yep! Ironic that that the JDM-spec MKIV's got the shaft compared to the USDM and Euro-spec models! Weaker (though physically larger) turbos, NA fuel pump, 440cc injectors, less aggressive intake cam and on and on. I forget all the JDM trim levels, but I believe only the top model got the TT brakes as well. The Euro-spec got ALL of the goodies, though -- heated seats, rear diff cooler, twin external auto tranny cooler and a few other small details. The one thing the US spec did get skimped on, which both Euro and JDM spec had, was the front Active Spoiler.

Yeah, I remember when I was on the c3 corvette forum regularly there was a guy somewhere in eastern Europe that built his car on an awd GMC cyclone frame. His reason was that the drag strips were in such poor condition that rwd cars, even with slicks, could not get traction. Apparently, awd was necessary to run the equivalent of a 10 second 1/4 mile.
