View Full Version : Saltwater Reefing?

Thats reefing, as in keeping saltwater fish, coral and invertebrates... Not Reefer which would best be kept off the internet if your into that :p.

I currently have two active tanks... 1 180g Display with 2 30gallon sumps and a Red Sea Max 64 gallon. I'm currently fighting a cyano outbreak in my 180 and a majano anemone outbreak in my Max. Despite these problems I am having some success with growing out corals in the 180 and everything still seems happy in my Max.

This is undoubtedly greek to anyone not interested in the hobby. Just thought I'd see if there are any other reef keepers out there.

This is definitely jibber jabber to me, but I love seeing pictures of nice aquariums, hint hint.

Once I get rid of my cyano and majonoes I'll post some up. Not much to look at right now. This stuff is prolific!

Yeah slime sucks and pest anemone too. I have had reef tanks for over 10th years, down to only my nano and 190 gal now. You should watch how much iodine you add, maybe even not add any more till algae bloom is done. Sometimes when your lights get old, they give off the wrong light spectrum and cause algae. I just buy tons of crabs, snails, and fish that will eat it. Pepperment (sp?) Shrimp will help with some anemones also. Hope this helped.

It always seems if you get slime algea you never are able to get rid of it completely. But the Boyd Chem stuff works wonders to fight it. And as far as the anemone outbreak I actually dont mind them as long as they arent harming anything else, unless they are aipstasia's. they are just a super pita especially if u have a lot of rock work I love long nose butterfly and if you have one thats a good eater otherwise they will give you years of aipstasia free tanks

I've been in the hobby for 2 years now I just have a 75 gallon with a HOB refuge and HOB skimmer. I have a six bulb t5 with 6 Cree LEDs. I had 7 fish but a marine velvet outbreak killed all but a bangies cardnel and a yellow tang.

I also had a cyano problem but better house keeping and running GFO cured that.
