where/how/how much?

up until season 7, it cost 5 electronic data chips--at the STF shop on DS9. You could score a minimum of 1 of those each time you did an STF mission, and 2 for elite STF missions. I regularly tool around sector space at warp 25.

Just read a review of STO...not looking too promising.

reviews don't tell you shit. STO is like a laid back version of WoW where you're not under pressure to play. you never feel "left behind" because you put the game down for a few weeks/months. and unlike EVE, you actually have GOOD space combat.

STF mission?

Alan, they're PvE missions you do on a 5-man team. They are the only place to get gear drops for the M.A.C.O. and OMEGA sets (space or ground). Most of the normal missions can be done in about 15 minutes (you join directly from the cue, you don't have to go anywhere special to join one).

just for clarity, here's a link to the STO wiki entry:

Assimilated Borg Technology - Star Trek Online Wiki (http://www.stowiki.org/Assimilated_Borg_Technology)

p.s.
people with this engine, maxed out attribute points in warp-drive, quantum slipstream, and using DI+RP (diplomatic immunity + raiding party) can hit warp 40. seriously. even higher if you have a DOFF (duty officer) assignment bonus. you can make a million credits easily in 1 hour doing tour the galaxy.

Am I reading correctly that you have to be admiral level to use them?

Well that would make sense, as you can't join STF cues until level 45 of so. since you can grind out level 50 in less than a week, i never really saw this as an issue. (the game isn't about leveling, it's about trading, multiplayer content (pvp and pve) and fleets. if you're desperate to level, you can play the mirror invasion event and usually get 5-10 levels in an hour or so.

Mirror arc seems to be lvl 45 and above. The daily borg mission seems like one for my level(lvl 23)

Are you actually gonna play? I see you in STO next to none. :( Guess maybe you're more of a COH guy?

I play STO normally just real late at night.

COH is actually better for quick in/out so I have played it a bit more over the last few weeks.
