Thanks y'all!

We are moving just a mile away from where we currently are. There is a new development going up right across from a huge park / nature preserve and right next to a good elementary school.

We had 4 showings yesterday. Not bad for only being available for less than 24 hours. :)

Well, we received some feedback from the buyers realtors yesterday. One commented on how we have "so many stickers on the walls" and they said we have mold on our front porch...no we don't we have some moss next to the flower beds because I water them daily. Either way, I will be cleaning up the moss.

The other wants a sellers disclosure because we are not in line with the comps. While it is true, we are asking more per square foot ($10) than the other 2 homes for sale in our neighborhood, the next cheapest home in our neighborhood is $180K and has old carpet and an old kitchen.

I'm good with our $150K list.

Thanks!

We're moving all of our stuff into a POD while the new place is being built. It will be great financially but we will be living with the inlaws for the next few months! They are awesome people, but we are going to miss our space and privacy.

These are all reasons why I could never move from Texas. Tiffany and I could never fathom spending what homes cost in other parts of the country.

Even more so, moving from Rowlett, prices here are much lower than other places in the Dallas Fort Worth area.

We are closing on our sale on Friday. We have already moved in with Tiff's parents and will be staying there for 5-6 months while our new place is being built. We will also be saving our down payment money during this time.

This is just a rendering of the floor plan, not our actual new home.

Depending upon your profession, its wasnt as bad as you might think. In 2004, we went from Frisco Tx. to Sacramento Ca. and although our payment went up 700 a month, we got 3x the house and my salary bump covered that twice over :D

That is true, if your salary increases in proportion to the cost of living, it would still be the same percentage of income.

Just still seems crazy to me. haha

agreed... took a bit to get used to, but the house made it worth it.

Nice job on yours, by the way!

This is my house in NJ for sale @ $125k.

45 FERN ST, Browns Mills NJ 08015, MLS #6099085, Weichert.com (http://www.weichert.com/44018923/?q=45+Fern+St%2c+Browns+Mills%2c+NJ&view=gallery)

It is nothing compared to yours. NJ homes are expensive. I also paid about $2400/yr in taxes on that, which is CHEAP for NJ.

Im paying 7000 this year in property taxes, kinda ridiculous.

Living in Louisiana is cheaper, Alabama or Mississippi even cheaper

A house like his in Essex County NJ would cost around 500k, and have property tax of around 17k/yr.

Well that county has Newark in it... my feelings are that social welfare drive up property tax... cause in the county I live in that borders Essex, taxes are less than 1/3 that, but home prices are higher.

NJ ALMOST capped property tax at 2%... but it never made it into law. Chris Christie was pushing that.

We have San Antonio close, but were not zoned for it. If we ever get zoned for SA, were moving. I think we are close to paying 2% though.

i pay ~$1100 annually in property taxes on my house in GA. i can't imagine spending 5 figures on property taxes. i'd move.

Step one: Live in expensive area
Step two: Save Money
Step three: Get pension from expensive area
Step four: Sell expensive house and move to FL/GA/TX/etc where its cheaper to live
Step five: Live like a king with my higher rate pension and savings

That's the life plan...

Turbo Beast

Isn't that just government jobs though? My pension is the same where ever i live.

wish i could do that. a guy i used to work with at home depot moved from CA to IN on work incentive. he kept his same pay. HUGE cost of living decrease, so he was making a very nice income.

For me, the plan was state or federal job pension, yes. But since there are better paying jobs in these high cost areas, if you still put the same percentage pay into a 401k, you are ultimately putting more into it. Also if an employer has matching contributions, you could make more based on the same percentage. Right now, aside from my pension, I have about 15% of my pay going to TSP (like 401k).

Anyhow, its not like its a masterful plan... In reality, I went where the family and money are, with the plans to retire in a cheaper area.

this. also, due to amazon & other sites, having more total income overall--usually means that you can purchase things with less of a "hit" to your disposable income than if you lived in a lower income area.

Yes, if you make more money, you have to worry about it less to a certain extent.

New home is coming along nicely. :)

Can't wait!!

Right now we are living with the in-laws, which they are awesome for letting us do so. We are paying them $300/month in rent plus help with the groceries.

Tiffany's business, Jaxon's room, our two dogs and 1 cat + us are all in her Dad's office. The fold up cots are getting a little old, but it will all be worth it. :)

Thanks!

I've been taking a picture from the same spot during this whole build. So in the end I'll have a nice short time lapse.

It is cramped, but worth it financially.

It will also make us appreciate all of the new room even more after we move.

The worst thing i Jaxon is going to be used to sleeping the same room as us. Right now he should be sleeping in his own room (he is 5.5 months) and working to fall back asleep on his own when he wakes up in the middle of the night. But with us being in the same room we get up, give him back his pacifier and go back to sleep. So he is not learning how to do that himself.

It will be interesting when we move since he will be around 9 months old once the house is completed.

Been crazy busy, the new home is still trashed and full of boxes, but we are getting there.

Here is a pic of us after Jaxon had his first bath in his new room. :)
