I bought a Pearl Blue 1993 Stealth TT with 66K original miles(only 4 exactly identical). Its repainted Fiji Blue and it looks amazing, but i don't have a title for it. The owner claims he filed with the california DMV to get a new one mailed to him but says they are way backed up and doesn't know how long it will take. He offered to buy it back but I really don't wanna sell the car. I wanna know what you guys would do.

I'd try calling the Cali DMV and verify he's the owner and tell them what's going on.

Find out what you can on the title, but without a title or a dealer plate there isnt much you can do with the car besides let it sit there.

You wouldn't need a title in my state being that old. So I dont know what I would due.

I'm pretty sure he is the legal owner because the car had current california plates and there was a copy of up to date registration in the glove compartment.

Check with the DMV .I know down here (N.Carolina) if you both go to the DMV he can apply for the duplicate title and do the transfer at the same time..

You did hold back some cash from the deal until you get the title, right?

Always remember, "A verbal agreement isn't worth the paper it's written on."

Notarized release of interest into your name at DMV and call them to verify if he is out of town and can not do this now.

By the way, it is illegal to sell a car without a title in hand, or releasing interest in person in many states... So check on that and hold over his head to get it handled asap.

Just call the Cali DMV and ask them what you should do. I'm betting there's a period of time you'll have to wait and then they will issue a new title

You can get a lot of info on the CADMV website. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/home/dmv.htm
