So my trans in my 91 vr4 got rebuilt now the shift pattern is more of a "W" shape. Instead of pulling straight down from first to grab second gear I have to go down on an angle or it won't go into gear. I'm kind of confused as to how this could be considering they're on the same fork.

Has nothing to do with the transmission, something is causing an issue on your cables.

Check the bracket for the shifter cables.

Which bracket? In the center console or on the tranny?

I'm going to have to have someone shift the car while I watch under the hood. It looks fine just looking at it.

Please report back what you find out. I have been puzzled by this one since I had my trans rebuilt too. The weird thing about mine is that it just seems to be 3rd and 4th, and it comes and goes. Very strange.

Try going to the actual trans, grab onto the counter weight, and see if the shift pattern is correct. That should let you know if its the trans or the cables.

Third and fourth on the.above question are on the same shift hub so you have a problem with that hub most likely . And as far as weird shift pattern on the OP question could be cause by cables not being placed properly or maybe even your shift shaft going into the trans put in incorrectly with the spring.missing or the reverse serene not lined up when installed .

I don't know how many countless times I shift a trans before i even install it in a vehicle to be sure but the pattern and movements are natural to me and i know what I'm.feeling.for

I wish you worked at 3SX then. I think they threw my tranny in, called it a day and sent me a bill for $5k.

If you ever need work done I can guaranteed the saving between me and them more than pays for shipping . And it wouldn't be the first car to get shopped from halfway cross country to have me work on it
