Thread: 6G74 3.5 DOHC NA Engine Swap.

6G74 3.5 DOHC NA Engine Swap.

I've pretty much decided that I'm going to swap a 6G74 3.5 DOHC into my 3000gt and keep it a naturally aspirated engine.

I just need some info before I go diving into this project.

I've read that if you get a JSPEC 3.5 6G74 from a Debonair it's a DIRECT swap. (For the life of me I can't find one for sale though!) Does anyone know where to get a DOHC
    6G74 3.5?

Basically what I'm asking is what engine will require the least modification to fit, and what the modifications would be.

For instance, I know that some people have had to grind away part of the block to have the rear mount fit properly. Some have had to modify the oil pan to make room for the cross member. And some have had to have custom downpipes made because the stock one was too short to clear the oil pan.

Keep in mind I'm keeping the engine NA.

Awesome. Do you remember what year and what car it came out of?

Mitsubishi Debonair was the only car it came out of. they are all a 93+ type motor thus having a separate cam and crank angle sensor. Very worthwhile mod mate. with a good tune I seen almost 200HP at the fronts. after the cam gears went on it felt even better. But bang for buck N/A wise is the way to go.

I thought that the 3.5's were also in the pajeros and monteros?

Can't hurt to have the info over here, right?

But I have been reading them. Just seems to be a bunch of conflicting information.

Head over to the NA section and click on the power thread.

Techically yes but if you want the RIGHT one that drops in, is 10:1 and has the proper camshafts, then the debonair is the only one you should be looking for!

AFAIK the pajero and montero ones had different pistons, and 100% have worse cams.

Alright. Looks like I have my work cut out for me trying to find a debonair engine!
