Talking about original car owners and how long they've kept their car.......

    .....this is a record!

    A dapper looking gentleman!
102 year old man with an 82 year old car

Comment: This has to be a record for car ownership! Mr. Allen Swift
(Springfield, MA.) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P 1 Roadster
from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928. He drove it
up until his death last year....at the age of 102!!!

He was the oldest living owner of a car from new. Just thought you'd like to
see it. He donated it to a Springfield museum after his death. It has 170,000
miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any speed and is in
perfect cosmetic condition. (82 years) ...That's approximately 2000 miles
    per year...

EDIT: I posted this in the wrong section and tried to delete so I could repost in the right section. Wouldn't allow it. Are we not allowed to delete our own posts now?

Wow! That thing looks huge next to him, and it's only a single row of seating.

    That's really cool.

    I'd imagine it's worth a fortune!

I'm curious on the overhauls it's had. 1928 technology is not good for 160,000 miles in any situation.

It's a Rolls-Royce. Even then every part was hand machined to the most exacting standards of the time and then some.

I wouldn't even venture a guess at what it's worth today on the open market.

The car my dad gave me was a Rolls-Cannardly. Rolls really good down one hill and Cannardly make it up the next.

Actually, it was a 1937 Buick straight eight that could hardly pull its own weight but it's what I passed my first driving text in back in 1962.

At that age I would never be able to crawl in or out of a 3000GT! Can barely do it now!

The horse power was not hugh but the torque was on those older cars because most of the engines of that era were very much over square, i.e. the stroke was almost always much longer that the bore width. My dads '38 Cadillac had a 346 cu. in. flat head that had a 3.5" bore but it had a 4.5" stroke but it had torque. Slow revin' but you could take off in high gear and it wouldn't even buck. You could also slow down the idle to the point you could visible count the rev's and it would stay running.

Some of those old rols' and stuff had some pretty serious superchargers on them and made 400+ hp.
