    Short Shifter Recommendations...

When I bought my 97 Vr4 it already had a short shifter in it which turns out is a POS! Twice the bolts have come loose and fell off on me in traffic, yeah that was fun. Then just the other day I was throwing it into reverse and broke it at the weld. Sorry I have no pictures to accurately describe where it broke. I would assume its just a generic one...

So after some research I think I'm going with the Seattle Short Shifter which I believe is sold by 3sx now? Please correct me if I am wrong. Isn't this the same shifter http://www.3sx.com/store/comersus_vi...dProduct=26595 ?
It appears to be highly reviewed and of very good quality.

If there are any other suggestions/ recommendations about this product or any other shifter please feel free to inform me.

    Thanks, John

Yeah I believe they guy who makes them sells them to 3sx now so they can market them. I don't have this Short Shift but it's definitely the one I would choose.. as it's ball bearing and offers pretty smooth shifts. People have nothing but good things to say about it.

Is there any other shifter to consider besides the Seattle one? NO

John, I'd love to see a picture of your old shifter

Paul's shifter is the best one out there, that's for sure (Seattle = Paul).

If you can find one of mine on Ebay, it's not a bad shifter either

Yeah, either Paul's or Bob's are the only STS to get.

Bob, I'll do my best to get you a picture... may end up coming off my phone so the quality might not be the best.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'm sold on the Seattle shifter.

Here are some pictures showing the current bolt I am using to temporarily fix it and the old threaded rod that was welded to the passenger side of the shifter. Also check out that big freaking turbo... it came off of a train.

As you can probably infer it really sucks using the bolt I have in there now. I constantly have to tighten it as I am driving so that it doesn't fall off, I understand why it was welded in the first place. This shifter has horrible play and is not smooth by any means. I can't wait for a quality made product.

I've got to admit, I've NEVER seen a SS with that design before (and I thought that I'd seen them ALL)....

Paul's would make that thing look like it was designed by a 2 yr old...

John, as a "temporary" fix for having to stop and tightening the bolt, you could always get a little RED loctite and another nut.

Place a small amount of the loctite on the exposed threads, and then put the extra nut on and tighten it against the nut that is there (use two wrenches and tighten the nuts towards each other, with the emphasis on keeping the inner nut where it is currently [i.e. not making the whole assembly tighter...which would make it harder to shift]).

If you put too much loctite on, you may not be able to get it back apart, but at this point I don't really think you care about that....

    Bob.
