You're lucky you got a new bar, it tastes even worse when the bar of soap has oil and grime on it from Dad working on the car...

I never said it was the ONLY thing she would use....she lived in WV on a fixed income...ccouldn't be using a new bar of soap on each of the grandkids....well, at least me and my sisters. My grandpa drove 18 wheelers, so there was plenty of dirt, grime and oil to go around.

I remember my Great Grandma chasing me (on my bike) around the house with a switch. Closing the gate and waiting for me to hit it when I came around the corner and then "switching" me all the way to my room.
I also remember getting my face slapped for saying the word "butt" in church.

I remember being in trouble as a kid and being spanked with a nice flat stick and one time the stick wasn't available and a willow was used instead. I had to cut down the damn willow.

I remember black and white TV, and you had to get up to change to one of three channels.
I remember the neighbors getting the first color TV on the block.
I remember walking barefoot across asphalt on a hundred degree day and not flinching.
I remember A & W Root Beer, 5 cent stamps and 5 cent pay phones.
I remember gas at 29 cents a gallon, and it was pumped for you.

I remember, as a little girl, using my neighbor's outhouse. No lie.
