Thumbs up Proof the EBay chips actually do work!

I miss typed the title, its suppose to say DONT work.

I just got contacted by a kid who has and SL and had bought some pulleys from me a few weeks ago. Well he bought a Venom 400 off Ebay. If you dont know what it is, its about $130 and plugs right into the ECU. He says he wired it right. He said the only thing it did do was make his car idle higher, and he had horrible gas mileage. Well guess what? He put a rod through his oil pan! He also bent 6 valves. He now wants to buy a rod and piston from me. Just wanted to share this with you guys as I thought it was a tad bit funny. He says he will never trust Ebay chips again haha.

Please do not buy Ebay chips.

I don't know why you would say they don't work.... They work exceptionally well at their designed purpose.

    Ebay chips

Not a fan of ebay stuff as well. but a chip is not going to cause that type of catastrophic (spelling and typing sucks) damage. Maybe it was the Royal Purple koolaid he was running in his motor. Bad milage and high idle, believe that. Not to sure about Venom products anyways. But I do know of a car running that same venom 400 for years and never had a problem. Ebay does not make a thing. And one can sell crap on ebay and that is not ebays fault. I have OBX long tube headers from ebay and what a saving to buy them there. So I don't know as I would bash Ebay as much as I would think a better target might just be the Venom products or the history of the car the products are put in. I don't think I would jump to conclutions so fast. Just food for thought.

Well the bashing is meant more towards the chips that are sold on ebay, not ebay itself.

The Venom name has been around for a while. About 12 years or so. Follow the link. Check out the product for your self. It does not plug into the ECU as you say and if done so may just have caused some of his problems. But the failure of his motor I don't believe was do to a Venom product.

I thought I heard of Venom. I didn't think there was ANY kind of chip like this that plugs into the ECU though, even from a different company. Maybe I should close this thread? haha

No. Do not close the thread. You have brought to light a very good point. It is always buyer be ware on ebay. We have no idea if this kid got a real Vemon product or a garbage China copy. Everything that you have said might be right. These threads are to get people to think. That's all I try to do. Even if I respond with what may sound like a negetive responce to the thread, the idea to get other to think about what they are doing what just happened and why. All good stuff here. I have deleted posts in the past when I think I was wrong about something. But I don't think you are wrong as you were just posting a short history of what hapopened. I was just trying to make sence of it and thinking out loud.
