Not to many on this forum probably know about it but last year we began a 1g project that wwas going to be our drag car, but after stripping it down there was just to many problems with the shell, rust being the major one. The body was beautiful, but the trunk and a few areas were rotting out, which isnt something you want in a car thats goal is low 8's. So the that car was donated to the other tech i work with Cory.
So not to long ago this 1g shows up at our shop and we do some work on it, clean up the IC piping and vaccuum lines to get it running right, nothing to crazy, but little did i know that this would soon be our shop car.
So flash forward to last Saturday. After a poor clutch install (not by us) causing some serious drivetrain issues ( broken bellhousing, damaged ear on the motor where tranny bolts to) causing the car to be hardly drivable he put it for sale and Emery ( Owner of STM) jump on the deal.
Turns out this car is a southern car, never seen winter except for this year for about 3 months. So Saturday we pick up the car and leave it in the shop to thaw out overnight, and Sunday morning the work began. First thing was a quick was to get rid of most of the salt, and then a full teardown. By Tuesday the car looked like this.
If you didnt know the car, you couldnt tell it was 20 years old. Still more cleaning and stripping to do, but for a weekend of work its moved along pretty fast. All the sound deadening has been removed, a lot of bracktes have been drilled and removed. There is still a ton of work to do to get this thing ready. The goals are not set in stone yet but the plan is make it around 2200 lbs in full track attire. Shooting for around 1000hp out of it, and then run some sick times down the track. Whatever we go with for a setup there is no doubt it will be insane.
Cant wait to drive this thing down the track, its gonna be a fun ride, but probably not until next year. Gonna take our time, possibly do some cutting and tubing to lighten and stiffen the chassis. It will move along slowly but parts are starting to roll in already.
